WeissBioTech has ist headoffice in Ascheberg, Germany and is specializing in the development, production and marketing of enzymes for bioethanol & potable ethanol production as well as the starch processing, beer, fruit-juice and food -industries.
Nigel Dunn-Colemann PhD:
Prof. Nigel Dunn-Coleman, co-founder, and CEO AlerGenetica S.L.(Spain). Prior to co-founding AlerGenetica he held research positions at Genencor International (now recently acquired by Dupont), and lead the successful commercialization of biotech products such as Sorona®, StarGen®, Fermgen®, Chymogen®. He is the author of over 220 patents and patent applications.
Prof. Dunn-Coleman has received numerous awards highlighting his participation in the development of biotechnology products including the 2003 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award for Microbial production of 1,3 Propanediol, the 2005 DuPont Sustainable Growth Excellence Award Bio-Based Materials for the Noteworthy Achievement of Production of Bio-PDOTM from Renewable Resources, the 2005 R&D Magazine Research 100 award for bio-ethanol production, and the 2007 Heroes of Chemistry award at the 234th ACS National Meeting in Boston for the Bio-PDO™ as a new 100 percent renewable ingredient.
Maria Diaz-Torres PhD:
Dr. Diaz-Torres is currently Executive Vice President, Director of Research and project coordinator at the biotechnology company AlerGenetica S.L.(Spain) of which she is a co-founder. Dr. Diaz-Torres worked during thirteen years in Genencor Int., now recently acquired by Dupont. She is an inventor of over 58 patents and patent applications in the field of industrial microbiology and biomedicine some of which are currently being used by renowned biomedical companies. Dr. Diaz-Torres has received numerous awards including the 2003 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award for Microbial production of 1,3 Propanediol, the 2005 DuPont Sustainable Growth Excellence Award Bio-Based Materials for the Noteworthy Achievement of Production of Bio-PDOTM from Renewable Resources, and the 2007 Heroes of Chemistry award at the 234th ACS National Meeting in Boston for the Bio-PDO™ as a new 100 percent renewable ingredient.
Dr. Diaz-Torres received her Ph.D. in microbiology from the National University of Ireland (Rep. Of Ireland). She then performed postdoctoral fellowships at both the University of Georgia (Georgia, U.S.A.) with Dr Sidney R. Kushner and at the Sackler School of Biomedical Sciences, Tufts Medical School, Boston (U.S.A.) with Dr. A. Wright
Wim de Laat:
Wim de Laat (Msc, Molecular Sciences, Wageningen) is a fermentation specialist who worked for 25 years on industrial biotechnology projects with Hercules, Inc. Wilmington USA, Gist brocades N.V. Royal Nedalco B.V. and DSM. His main achievements were fermentation process development for natural delta decalacton, a dairy flavor ingredient for Hercules, fermentative antibiotic 7-ADCA, infant food ingredient arachidonic acid, various industrial enzymes such as phytase, a feed ingredient at DSM-Delft. The past ten years the main focus was on development of technologies for cellulosic ethanol such as C5 fermenting Yeast at Royal Nedalco B.V. as well as cellulases and pretreatment technologies at DSM.
Dr. Catherine Grassin:
Dr. Catherine Grassin is biochemist & oenologist and has received her Ph.D. from Bordeaux University. She has been working for more than twenty years for Gist-brocades/DSM as Application Manager. She developed numerous enzymes for fruit-juice & wine applications. With WeissBioTech since 2009, she is R&D Director, leading projects with numerous partners for new enzyme applications for the food, beverage and bioethanol industries.
The creation of a new application laboratory in France, will also lead to faster characterization of the new enzymes developed by WeissBioTech Research and partners. She also works with other partners such as Verenium, for improving industrial processes of customers, supporting the image of WeissBioTech as an innovating company in the Biotechnology field.
Pierre is a biochemist from the CNAM Lille. Pierre has worked for more than 35 years for Gist-brocades/DSM, first as Manager of the R&D application laboratory. Later Pierre was responsible for the development of new enzymes for beer, wine, starch and baking applications. From 1988 to 2004 Pierre was Technical Director at Gist Brocades/DSM and provided worldwide technical support for beverages enzymes, i.e. fruit-juice, wine, beer and potable alcohol. Since 2005 Pierre is Technical Consultant for WeissBioTech. Pierre is co-author of several Application Patents for fruit juice application.
